Historical Overview

The Commission for Labour was set up in 1971 in response to the recommendation of the National Seminar “Church in India Today “(1969) and the deliberations of the Roman Synod (1971) “Justice in the world”.

During the past twenty one years of its existence focus of the Commission was on pastoral issues of the field of labour to make the Church present and active, fostering Justice through positive contribution especially for the marginalized categories of workers.

The Commissions started functioning with the office at Madras (Catholic Centre) three Bishops as members and a Secretary.
