History

The Diocese of Shimoga, comprising the districts of Shimoga, Chitradurga and Davanagere, carved out from the Diocese of Chikmagalur and the Archdiocese of Bangalore, was erected on November 14, 1988 by Pope John Paul II by the Apostolic Constitution, "Id Spectantes". It is entrusted to the diocesan clergy.
