Nun Made Member Of National Commission for Minority Educational
Institutions

Sr
Jessy Kurian of Sisters of St Ann of Providence was administered
the oath of office as member of the National Commission for Minority
Educational Institutions this morning in New Delhi.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Siddiqui administered the
oath of office at the Commission’s office in Jeevan Tara
Bhavan, New Delhi.
Commission member Mr Ramoowalia and Archbishop of Delhi Vincent
Concessao were present.
Sr Jessy took the oath in the name of God.
Later, both the Commission chairman Justice Siddiqui and member
Mr Ramoowalia felicitated the newly inducted member.
In her response Sr Jessy stated that in discharging her duty,
the “nation’s interest will be her interest”
and she will uphold the Constitution of India “without affection
or favour”.
Commission Secretary R. Rranganath conducted the proceedings.
Sr Jessy has been an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and
a leading Human Rights activist.
She has been working strenuously to provide legal assistance to
distressed and marginalised women.
National
Commission for Minority Educational Institutions is a statutory
body constituted by the UPA Govt. to safeguard and enforce the
Minority Rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
As a new member in the Commission, Sr Jessy takes the place of
Ms. Vasanthi Stanley who was nominated to Rajya Sabha (House of
States).
