DELHI, APR. 16, 2008, 16.30 Hrs (CBCI News):
41
school children and 3 teachers were drowned in Narmada canal at
Bodeli village, near Baroda in Gujarat, as the bus carrying them
plunged into canal water.
Bishop of Baroda Godfrey De Rozario has condoled the death of
“innocent children” and assured “support of
prayers for the bereaved families.”
“Words cannot express adequately our sorrow and shock at
the pain of the children and their teachers and the loss of those
who have lost a loved one,” added Bishop Rozario.
Rather recently constructed Narmada canal is about 60 feet deep
at the place of the accident.
Most of the victims were school children, many of them girls,
who were traveling in the bus. The children belonged to different
local schools in the area.
Both the bus driver and the conductor also died in the tragic
accident.
Most of the bodies of the drowned and the mangled bus have been
recovered from the canal.
