Quevedo Re-elected As FABC Secretary General
BANGKOK,

Archbishop
Orlando Quevedo was re-elected for another three-year term as
secretary general of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conference
(FABC).
Archbishop
Quevedo is the metropolitan Archbishop of Cotabato, Philippines
and has been the President of the Philippines Conference for two
terms.
The
Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines said Thursday that
Quevedo was elected at the FABC central committee's meeting in
Bangkok last April 16 to 19.
The
committee also extended the term of the assistant secretary general,
Fr. Raymond O'Toole, for another four-year term.
The
Federation is composed of 15 Bishops' Conferences and 10 associate
members. The latest to join was the Bishops' Conference of Kasakhstan
(Central Asia).
The
associate members are Church territories with less than three
dioceses or ecclesiastical territories from the Asian continent.
During
the three-day meeting held in Bangkok, the different offices reported
about their activities and programs.
The
Central Committee also discussed about the structure and activities
of the Federation.
Planning
for the upcoming General Assembly of the FABC, the highest decision
making body of the Federation, was another important discussion
point.
This
assembly will be held in Bangalore with the theme "Living
the Eucharist in Asia."
General
Assemblies of the Federation take place every four years. In between,
the Central Committee serves as the governing body of the Federation.
