Film Trilogy Brings Dignity to AIDs Victims

NEW DELHI, Feb. 09, 2010, 09.40 Hrs (C.M. Paul):

What happens when big names in the film industry (producer, director, actors, screen play writers and distributor) and Non Governmental Organizations like Don Bosco Media come together for a social cause? It is bound to have far reaching impact than expected. This is the story of the short film trilogy entitled Life, Love and Hope made to create awareness to prevent and contain its spread as well as help rehabilitate victims of HIV AIDS.

The alaihal MIDEA (Media Initiatives for Development, Empowerment and Awareness) media production wing of Salesian Trichy province produced a trilogy of short films on stigma and discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS to restore their human dignity.

The film is made in association with Red Giant Movies of Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Dr. M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu. Mrs. Kiruthiga Udayanithi, the editor of the English monthly `Inbox 1305` wrote the story. A member of Tamil Nadu`s first family, she is the wife of Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin.

The first short film (5.49 minutes) entitled LIFE opens with two bare hands of a girl child sticking out of the grills of an iron gate while passersby make a detour to avoid the HIV AIDS home where she lives. One day a young man meets with road accident in front of the home and the little girl comes to his rescue while the rogue vehicle which hit him speeds away.

The second short film (4.13 minutes) starts with the same girl at the iron grill looking out as usual when the accident victim and his wife comes to thank her. The man recognizes the little girl and gives her a bar of chocolate which she secretly shares with other children in the home… This is entitled LOVE and directed by Mr. M. Sasikumar, a renowned director, producer and actor who has several popular and successful Tamil films like `Subramaniapuram,` `Pasanga` and `Nadodigal’ to his credit.

The third film (4.22 minutes) entitled `HOPE` is a heartbreaking scene where the same girl who lost her mother to HIV AIDS comforts another little girl who suffers the same fate…It is directed by Mr. Mysskin of `Chitthiram Pesuthadi,` `Anjaathey` and `Nandalaala` fame.

The initiative is supported by numerous socially conscious people. The directors as well as some of the popular actors like Prasanna have rendered their services freely and other supporters of the initiative are Tamilnadu State Aids Control Society (TANSACS) & AIDS Prevention Control Project (APAC), India Cements, Arumbu Publications, Gemini Colour Lab, Anand Cine Services, INBOX 1305, EFX.

The trilogy is produced under the banner of `People AIDS Initiative` a forum launched by all those who worked in the films.
