Held to Demand Reservation for Dalit Christians and Muslims

National
Council of Dalit Christians and All India Pasmantha Muslim Mahaj
Jointly organised a Parliament March and Dharna on Monday, 15
March at Jantar Mantar, from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. More than 15,000
people participated in the function. Wave after wave of people
came shouting slogans. MPs Mr. Ali Anwar, Mr.Azeez Pasha, Mrs.
Brinda Karat, Mr. Sharad Yadav and Bishop Neethinathan and many
Muslim and Christian leaders were among the speakers.
Following
were the demands put forth to the Government by the speakers:

Implement
the recommendations of Justice Ranganatha Misra Commission
Report concerning Christians and Muslims of Scheduled Caste
origin.

Give
Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims
-
Give
positive response to the suit in the Apex Court.

Bring
the Bill in the present session of the Parliament for SC status
to all Dalits irrespective of religion
The
UPA Government has tabled the Report of National Commission for
Religious and Linguistic Minorities, which recommends Scheduled
Caste status to Christians and Muslims of Scheduled Caste origin.
The Commission also recommended the deletion of the para 3 of
the Constitution Scheduled Castes Order 1950, as it is against
the spirit of secularism which the Constitution of India upholds.
The
members of National Council of Dalit Christians (NCDC) and All
India Pasmantha Muslim Mahaj took part in the rally actively by
raising slogans and carrying banners.
