Msgr. Raphael Thattil Consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Trichur

Monsignor Raphael Thattil, the present vicar general of the Archdiocese of Trichur consecrated as the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese by the Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath the Archbishop Trichur and the Secretary General of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council at Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral Church, Trichur on Saturday 10th April 2010 at 05.00pm. Archbishop Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy the Archbishop of Emeritus of the Archdiocese and Bishop Mar Jacob Manathodath the bishop of Palghat were the principal concelebrants. Msgr. Raphael Vadakkan served the liturgical celebrations as archdeacon and Moran Mor Baselios Mar Cleemis Catholicos the Major Archbishop of Syro-Malankara Church gave the homily.

Bishop Mar Raphael Thattil was born in Trichur on April 21, 1956. Having completed his major seminary studies at St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary Vadavathoor, he was ordained priest on December 21, 1980. He obtained a doctorate in Canon Law from Rome. He held the office of minor seminary vice rector, vice chancellor and Chancellor of the Archeparchy. Later he was appointed the first rector of the Mary Matha Major Seminary. He was elected Auxiliary Bishop of Trichur while holding the office of Syncellus of the Archeparchy
