Bishop Ordained for Mandya

Monsignor
George Njaralakatt was ordained as the first Bishop of the newly
set up Syro-Malabar diocese of Mandya on April 7. The Episcopal
ordination of Rev Msgr George Njaralakatt was held at the Infant
Jesus Church in Hinkal in Mysore.
Mar George
Valiamattom, the Archbishop of Thalassery was the main celebrant
and Mar Jabob Thoomkuzhy, the Archbishop emeritus of Trichur
and Mar Jose Porunnedom, the Bishop of Mananthavady were the
concelebrants.
Most Rev
Bernard Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore delivered the homily.
Rev Msgr George Njaralakatt is serving the Bhadravathi diocese
as vicar-general since 2007.
The Mandya
diocese was carved out of the eparchy of Mananthavady with permission
from the Vatican by the Synod of Bishops of the Syro-Malabar
Major Archiepiscopal Church. The newly-erected eparchy of Mandya
has its jurisdiction over revenue districts of Mysore, Mandya,
Hassan and Chamarajnagar.
