Youth Commission Prepares For Regional Census
BANGALORE, May 10, 2010, 17:05 Hrs (MANGALOREAN):
Karnataka
Regional Youth Commission plans to conduct a Census of youth
in the state. This was decided during a meeting of the executive
committee of the regional youth commission, in Bangalore May
5. This comes as a follow up on the Catholic Bishops’
Conference of India (CBCI) General Body meeting in Guwahati
in February 2010 and the statement on youth ministry.
Bishop Henry
D’Souza, chairman of Karnataka Youth Commission, called
the census an important step to “understand the present
situation of youth in Karnataka and the problems faced by them.
This will enable greater understanding of expectations from
the Church and give youth proper guidance.”
Father Faustin
Lobo, PRO of Karnataka region, presented the Census Questionnaire
containing 39 questions which were approved. The commission
set a deadline for the census to be taken and compiled before
September 26. Bishop Peter Machado of Belgaum exhorted the youth
and animators “to work together and stay connected to
Jesus like the vine and the branches”.
