Diocese Sets Up Legal Cell

Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore blessed and inaugurated
a Diocesan Legal Cell, June 7, 2010 at Milagres centre building.
In his inaugural address the bishop stressed the need of such
a legal cell to assist people who have legal problems. A true
and fair legal guidance is the need of the hour, he said. Fr
Francis Assisi D’Almeida has been appointed director of
the Legal Cell. The Cell is set up to provide legal assistance,
education and guidance to the Christian community, and the poor
and the needy in the diocese.
The following are some of the objectives of the Cell:
• To provide space for amicable settlement of quarrels
and litigations
• To give to every Christian in the Diocese of Mangalore
basic legal knowledge
• To maintain up-to-date all the required legal documents
of every parish of the Diocese of Mangalore.
• To provide legal awareness especially on new laws and
notifications
• To fight collectively against the violation of Human
Rights and Minority Rights.
• To form arbitration committee to settle disputes related
to the Catholics in the Diocese of Mangalore and to try to resolve
them out of court.
• To guide people in matters related to the law, especially
when they meet with problems or are ignorant of the legal provisions.
