Celebrates Mother Teresa’s Birth Centenary
AHMEDABAD,
Gujarat, Aug. 30, 2010, 10:05 Hrs (SAR NEWS):
Several
programmes marked the birth centenary of Mother Teresa in Ahmedabad,
August 26. The day began with prayer services in the three houses
of the Missionaries of Charity in the city, which house several
inmates, including dying destitute and orphans.
Feeding
programmes for the poor and children from the slums were organised
from each of these centres.
The highlight
of the day, however, was a public homage to Mother Teresa, when
several citizens gathered at Mother Teresa Chowk in the heart
of the city. Prayers and floral tributes were offered to Mother
Teresa.
Bishop
Thomas Macwan of Ahmedabad, Jesuit Provincial of Gujarat, Father
Jose Changanacherry, and director of human rights organisation
Prashant, Jesuit Father Cedric Prakash were present among other
eminent citizens and municipal officials.
A series
of programmes to celebrate the Mother Teresa centenary have
been organised in the city which include a public programme
on September 5 and an International Film Festival later in September.
